About me

A

A business owner and freelancer since 2016, I do several things successfully: writing, editing and public speaking.

The trait that connects them all? Compassion.

Compassion for you as a leader.

I have so much compassion for you as a leader and business owner: the challenges you’re facing, the dreams you’re chasing, your need for greater clarity on how to express your story and your impact.

Compassion plays out in the questions I ask.

I’m always considering your audience and what they need to know.

I take the time to dig below the obvious with thoughtful questions to reveal what you need to say and how you need to say it (in the most respectful way).

And, just as importantly, compassion for your client or reader.

Your ideal client or target audience are likely time poor and want to read interesting, clear and concise content to make their life easier, better, safer, dreamier.

They don’t want to feel foolish or bombarded by features, or jargon, or acronyms. I write in plain English, with benefits at the centre, making sure how you articulate your story beautifully aligns with your vision.

Got a bigger story to tell?

I’ve helped several self-published authors get their books out into the world. I hold space for the vulnerable stuff, the bold stuff, the life-changing stuff. I also do this in an accessible way (which I know you’ll appreciate if you’re neurodivergent like me!)

Whether it’s for your business or for you personally, I’m here to share your story with heart and impact and relatability.

Compassion for other business owners and leaders who don’t fit the mould.

I’ve always been a deeply caring person (despite being very self-critical at times) but this need for self-compassion emerged from my lived experience of bipolar.

As well as all the tough bits, bipolar has given me a compassionate heart and a strong urge to challenge what’s possible, doing my bit to put toxic professionalism in the bin.

I believe work can be a source of harm or a source of joy. The main deciding factor? Compassion.

Here are the various spaces where I share my story (and where compassion takes centre stage):

– Lunch and learn sessions at organisations
– Keynotes/panellists at live events
– As a podcast guest
– My Substack
– On my creative website: www.compassionpoetry.co.nz (where you can also buy sympathy cards).
– Watch this space for my book about creating a life and living with bipolar.

I’m on a mission to raise awareness of bipolar and reduce stigma for a more compassionate and informed world. Want to join me? Check out my other website: www.businessinthebath.co.nz

What I’m here for:

I write and edit blogs, case studies, annual reports, and other meaty and meaningful content for New Zealand social enterprises, not-for-profits and businesses committed to doing good things in their community. Helping real-life heroes who work for people, social justice, and the planet find, refine and use their best voice to inspire and motivate meaningful action.

What I stand for:

My top four values are: compassion, community, courage and curiosity.

What I’m good at:

  • Asking the right questions so I can understand the complexities and nuances of your business or project.
  • Listening to your needs and dreams for your business or project.
  • Working with you to create content that is up-to-date, inspiring and easy to understand.
  • Delivering high-quality work with exceptional attention to detail, a fair price and a reliable turnaround.

Wait a sec. Did you want a bio?

Here goes. Before launching my own copywriting business in late 2016, I worked at ASB (2007-2010) where I wrote personalised investment plans, and then as an administrator at a busy West Auckland church (2012 – 2016). I grew up in England before immigrating to New Zealand in 2005. And I’m a proud mum to a wonderful girl and two cats.

I’m also a qualified writer (if there is such a thing). I’ve got a BA in Writing Studies and Drama and I’m constantly honing my skills.

Outside of work, you’ll find me dancing, reading, taking acting and improv classes, skulking around stationery shops, attempting to tell jokes but being the only one to laugh, or trying to keep up with my school-age kid.

I worked with Katie for almost two years at Enrolmy software.  I found Katie great for helping with our annual content strategy and planning out achievable monthly content targets.  Katie has a real knack of asking the right questions to get the right answers to fuel great content.  She helped Enrolmy define its mission, values and purpose to guide the business and inspire employees.  She also created powerful monthly blogs and case studies that really drove the marketing engine which led to consistent month on month lead generation and business growth.
